JORGE CARYEVSCHI<\/h1>\n

(*1944)<\/p>\n

I was born in Argentina and studied there with Bruno Bragato, in Italy with Severino Gazzelloni, and in the Netherlands with Frans Vester. I was awarded the Music Prize of the City of Buenos Aires in two consecutive years. At the same time, I received an honorary diploma from the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.<\/p>\n

In Buenos Aires, I was the solo flutist of the National Symphony Orchestra between 1966 and 1976, and ever since have lived in the Netherlands. As a freelance musician, I have played as the solo flutist of the Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Utrecht Symphony Orchestra, the North Holland Philharmonic Orchestra, and the German Philharmonia Hungarica.<\/p>\n

I performed as a soloist and as a member of chamber music ensembles. Characteristic for those performances was the accent on the contemporary repertoire and music from around 1800, played on historical instruments. I made numerous recordings with this repertoire, both CDs, as broadcast productions (BBC, NOS, Radio Nacional de Espa\u00f1a, TVE, Radio France, WDR, Radio Berom\u00fcnster Z\u00fcrich).<\/p>\n

Between 1979 and 2004, I formed a duo with the Norwegian pianist H\u00e5kon Austb\u00f6. During the 90’s I performed regularly with guitar player Miguel Angel Girollet, mainly in Spain. I was also part of the Melos Ensemble de Buenos Aires and the Argentum Ensemble in the Netherlands. I founded several ad hoc ensembles playing with musicians from the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Radio Orchestras on thematic events and festivals, including the Holland Festival with the complete chamber music by Elliott Carter, the Netherlands-America Festival, etc. Together with the soloists of the Orchestra of the 18th Century Lucy van Dael, Emilio Moreno, and Wouter M\u00f6ller I formed Harmonico Lasso. Prestigious European concert halls invited us to play the complete Mozart quartets and late 18th-century music as well.
\nI played an original Tromlitz model flute from 1802 built by John Hale. I was also a member of the Spanish early-music ensemble L\u2019Academia d\u2019Harmonia, with baroque guitarist Jos\u00e9 Miguel Moreno.<\/p>\n

More than forty works for flute solo or flute with piano have been written and dedicated to me. I have performed this repertoire frequently in festivals of contemporary music, such as Encuentros Internacionales de M\u00fasica Contempor\u00e1nea de Buenos Aires, Holland Festival in Amsterdam, Ultima in Oslo, Festival de M\u00fasica Contempor\u00e1nea de Alicante and others.<\/p>\n

After teaching at the National Conservatory in Buenos Aires, I became a professor of the Conservatory in Zwolle (ArtEZ) in 1980. In Madrid I founded in 1984 the “Escuela de Altos Estudios Flaut\u00edsticos,” a postgraduate course for flute pedagogues. In 2009 and 2010 I was a professor at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. I regularly give masterclasses in Argentina, Belgium, Israel, Korea, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the United States, and Venezuela.<\/p>\n

I was often a jury member in national and international competitions, including Princess Christina Competition, Benelux Flute Competition, Concurso Internacional Reina Sof\u00eda (Madrid), Jeunesses Musicales (Bucharest), etc.<\/p>\n

Musicologically I worked on projects related to Dutch and Iberian music for flute. As part of this research, a CD has been produced by Radio Nacional de Espa\u00f1a, with works by Spanish composers of the first half of the 18th century on 8-key flute and fortepiano. In the early 1980s, I took the initiative with violinist Willem Noske to make an inventory and first selection of Dutch music for\/with a flute.
\nFor the publication of part of this repertoire, I was music editor for Zimmermann in Frankfurt.<\/p>\n

In 1993 I founded The Netherlands Flute Orchestra, of which I was the conductor during the twenty years of its existence. The ensemble’s identity was its innovative instrumental approach and the conceptual and theatrical design of the programs. Unusual collaborations came into being with artists and other ensembles like singers Roberta Alexander and Mathilde Santing, bandone\u00f3n player Carel Kraayenhof and Sexteto Canyengue, actor Willem Nijholt, Mondriaan String Quartet, and the Orchestre de Fl\u00fbtes Fran\u00e7ais with flutist Pierre-Yves Artaud, among others. There was also a fruitful relationship with an international selection of composers, who dedicated more than thirty works to the orchestra. Considered a specialist in flute orchestras, I was invited to conduct in Caracas, Madrid, Paris, Oporto, and Seoul.<\/p>\n

Various professional journals (Fluit, Todo Flauta, Tempo Fl\u00fbte, The Flutist Quarterly, Aveiro University Portugal) have published my articles on different subjects. I contributed to the Lexicon der Fl\u00f6te by Laaber publishing house on Flute Orchestra.<\/p>\n

For the Dutch Flute Association (Nederlands Fluit Genootschap) I have been Program Director during the 25th jubilee International Convention.<\/p>\n
